CB&I is a leading supplier of hydrogen plants for refinery, petrochemical and other industrial applications. In addition to EPC services, we offer proprietary reformer furnace technology that provides superior performance and efficient energy utilization. Over the past 35 years, we've designed and built more than 170 plants around the world that range in capacity from less than 1 million standard cubic feet per day to 90 million standard cubic feet per day.

Our services for hydrogen plant projects typically include conceptual design, detailed engineering, procurement, fabrication, construction, start-up and operator training. We provide a lump-sum, turnkey solution, handling everything from concept to start-up with our own resources whenever possible. This true EPC approach is possible because we maintain a global network of engineering, welding, fabrication, procurement and construction resources that can quickly be mobilized to virtually any location.

We believe our unique business model delivers the best value and lowest total cost of ownership for our customers. By providing single-source responsibility, we are able to shorten project schedules, minimize costs, provide improved quality control and reduce the customer's risk. Our customers can focus on their core operations instead of worrying about the duplication of effort, delays and incompatible designs that can arise when multiple contractors perform the work.

The benefits of modular construction. We execute plant projects using modular or conventional "stick-built" construction, depending on the specific project requirements. In many cases, modular construction provides the most efficient, cost-effective results. Modular plants are pre-assembled at our in-house fabrication facilities and can be shipped virtually anywhere in the world for field installation. Fabricating the components in-house allows for more stringent quality control and shorter project schedules. Crews can test fit components in the shop, eliminating the potential for time-consuming and expensive fitting errors in the field.

Modular construction also minimizes the impact of the project on the customer's site, an important benefit when the project is located within an operating plant. Delays due to inclement weather are reduced, and in-air fieldwork is minimized, which reduces the customer's risk and local labor costs. Also, various aspects of the project – such as permitting, fabrication and shipping arrangements – can be accomplished concurrently, compressing the project schedule.

Hydrogen plant technologies. We design and build hydrogen plants that utilize steam-methane reforming (SMR), steam/oxygen reforming (SMR/O2R) or auto-thermal reforming (ATR) technology with natural gas, LPG or naphtha feedstocks. We also provide plants that utilize partial oxidation (POX) technology with natural gas, naphtha or heavy hydrocarbon feedstocks.

SMR is the most widely used technology for hydrogen plants. SMR-type plants with a design capacity of more than 7 million standard cubic feet per day incorporate our proprietary HYFORMING™ box reformer furnace technology. Plants with a design capacity of up to 7 million standard cubic feet per day feature our proprietary H2Drogen™ cylindrical reformer furnace technology. Both technologies combine efficient energy utilization and superior performance with safety and ease of operation.

Petroleum refiners and petrochemical manufacturers need a reliable supply of high-quality hydrogen for their operations. We offer solutions that are suited for a variety of feedstocks, capacity requirements, and other criteria. And our proven, innovative technologies deliver superior long-term value, low life-cycle costs and reliable performance. Contact: hydrogen@CBI.com
