Once natural gas liquids (NGLs) have been separated from a natural gas stream, they are further separated into their component parts, or fractions, using a distillation process known as fractionation.
Randall Gas Technologies, a division of Lummus Technology, a CB&I company, has performed the basic engineering for over 30 projects worldwide on NGL fractionation plants. The feed rates ranged from 3,000 - 120,000 bbl/d, and products include ethane, propane, iso-butane, normal butane, and pentanes. Randall was responsible for the EPC on 12 of those projects, ranging in feed rates from 4,500 - 74,000 bbl/d. The projects involved NGL feed from traditional gas processing plants as well as refinery gas plants. All process designs used open art technology. Some projects involved the use of proprietary valve tray and/or packing designs from third parties.
